wedding portraits

i'm in the processes of buying lots and lots of fun vintage frames so i can fulfill my life long dream of creating a giant photo collage on a wall of our apartment.

(if i could, i would live in a house with walls covered in books, photos and busy-patterned wallpaper and all my guests would be wrapped in cozy afghans upon entering and offered a cup of hot chocolate. also, my house would always smell like christmas.)

anyway! here are some of my favorite pictures, all taken by our amazingly talented photographer, Jennifer Davis. these will all be hanging up as part of my photo collage. probably next to lots of polaroids of me eating Forever Yogurt.

p.s. i'm at "the big whole foods" (as i like to call it) and their WiFi is free, but slooooow. so i have more wedding portraits to share, but i've had too much prosecco and i might be drunk and i'm full of pumpkin gelato and the newborn baby at the table next to me (who i am pretty sure just emerged from his mama five minutes ago) is screaming bloody murder and i don't have the patience to wait for more pics to upload and i must leave. bye bye!

wedding photos:

1. jim's uncle bob (i dig his style. i think our wedding photographer did too -- we have lots of pics.)
2. my dad laughing with jim's dad
3. jamie (my brother) & matt

panda head

this photo was taken by matt at a san francisco giants game and posted to facebook with the following caption...

...."the panda is the only one watching the game."

which made me laugh really hard when i saw it because it's true.

i'm not so good at watching sporting events.

 {i'm pretty good at eating ballpark food though.}

anyway, i guess one of the san francisco giants players (jim, help me out with the name here) is called "panda" or "the panda" or "panda man" or something so everyone wears panda hats to the games.

just picture hundreds of pandas watching a baseball game!

i think i know what i'm going to be for halloween now...

milkshake in the mission

my brother and matt took us to St. Francis in san francisco's mission district for some brunch action while we were in town last weekend.

i was jonesin' for some buttermilk pancakes, and then i saw they had milkshakes on the menu and so i had to have one of those too.

i got an espresso milkshake (vanilla with a shot of espresso).

the ice cream was so good, i swear it changed my life.

and the paper striped straws?  i die.

i want to go out for brunch every day of my life.

christmas tea party

we had a little tea party over the christmas holiday to celebrate jim's aunt's birthday.

and can i just say, for the record, that if there are three things i love in this world they are: girl talk, pretty china, and heart-shaped sandwiches.

happy birthday, aunt kate!

we went on a horse drawn carriage ride...

...through central park with jim's family on saturday.

at the end of our ride our driver (is that what he's a called? a driver?) got out of the carriage to take our picture from the sidwalk. while he was snapping away, our horse decided it was time to go and started clomp clomp clopming down 5th avenue. molly, scott, jim, and i were all, HALP! WE WANT TO GET OFF THIS RIDE!

it was all good in the end. but secretly? i wish i could have ridden the horse to the country to live with a nice family on a farm. he looked sad and unnatural next to all the beeping cars and dirty buses. ugh. heart hurts.

halloween baby

jim turned the big 3-0 on saturday. (yes, he is a halloween baby). and because 30 is such a big birthday (and because jim totally rocks) his family and I planned an extra special surprise celebration.

on saturday afternoon, jim and i ventured out into the world. i told him that i had a special birthday present on hold for him at the Barnes and Noble on the upper west side so we had to go pick it up. when we walked into the shop, we spotted jim's sister browsing a section of books. we went to say hello and then jim spotted his dad...and then his aunt...and then his mom...then his cousin. jim had no idea that all these people were coming to NYC to see him!

jim described it as the "best easter egg hunt ever."

i love surprises!

happy birthday, jim!

it's just a jump to the left!

today, march 11th, is my big brother's BIRTHDAY! weeeee!

because i am a typical annoying little sister, i came up with a list of questions for jamie to answer and demanded he complete my survey IMMEDIATELY. and because he is an awesome older brother, he did! here are his answers...

what's your full name? James William Morris Jr.

current occupation? Video game thing

current city? San Francisco

what's your favorite food? Excellent chicken fingers

favorite city? London

what's your favorite thing to do on a saturday? Sleep all day

who is your favorite muppet? Rowlf the dog

what's your all time favorite album? Meatloaf's Bat out of Hell (this was chosen largely at random)

interesting tidbits of info not included in the survey, but i know them because we're related --

jamie likes the Cookiepuss ice cream cake from Carvel. i do too, they're yum. he used to remove the pimentos before eating green olives (i don't know how you're eating them these days, jamie.) he introduced me to the wonders of The Rocky Horror Picture Show (i did the Time Warp in my living room just the other night, btw.) when he was little, he was in odyssey of the mind. he took me to lunch at Skywalker Ranch last year. he played Fagin in his high school's production of the musical Oliver! one time when we were small, he told me we were going to sit down and watch a nice movie about a princess, but really we watched Troll and it was horrifying. he got me My So Called Life on DVD for christmas this year and it's awesome!

alright. i think i have embarrassed him enough today.

HAPPY TURKEY BIRTHDAY, JAMIE!

an interview with jackie

this post of amy's inspired me to share some family videos of my own.

behold my brother (the puppet) and my grandmother (jackie o).

i'm sure my brother wants to reach across the atlantic and slap me right now (hi jamie!), but if you want to see more of his stuff (and you do! you do!), you can find all kinds of goodies here.

cleave and her godmother

here's a pic of me and Suzanne, my mom's sister (my godmother and namesake) on christmas eve. please excuse my sorry excuse for cleavage. i didn't realize i was wearing something so um, festive.

Suzanne hosts an annual christmas eve party and since i was in new england for the holidays this year, i actually got to go! i haven't seen my mom's side of the family in years (not since my mom's funeral which makes me a giant asshole, but i resolve to be a better niece and granddaughter this year). anyway, i forgot how fun this side of the family is.

in other news...how insanely shiny is my hair, right?

go jesus, it's ur birthday

december has been a pretty fab month!

jim and i moved to a room with a view...

our new apartment was dirty at first...

but now it's cozy...

(headboard taken from the garbage pile on 34th street in queens)

i went to chicago to drink gluewhein with jacqueline...

we had our first snow in new york...

we had a holiday party...

we had presents and yule logs and christmas margaritas and a wedding (not mine) and many hugs from many people i don't know and a peanut fight and family rockband sessions and a "how is babby formed?" laughing fit and much more.

bring on 2009!

gobble gobble

you know what i love most about thanksgiving? once we all gobble up some turkey and clean the flatware, we can officially celebrate christmas! to be honest, i have been singing carols since october. but now nobody can roll their eyes at me. yay!

i helped my step mother put up the tree this morning. she has some fabulous ornaments. here are two i am very excited to inherit...

precious!

dumbo! or, now that i live in brooklyn, DUMBO.

bring on the christmas cheer!

lo siento...

...pero, i just drank two large margaritas. on la rocks, no salt.

some more pics of vida en el loony bin. para tu.

my little brother. his voice is cracking these days so it's really painful to listen to anything he has to say.

this is my dad. he's happier than your dad.

these pics show what we in the morris clan refer to as "the room with no purpose". we have one in dunstable, we have one in south carolina. i think that in both homes, 'the room with no purpose' is supposed to be a dining room, but we just use it to store extra lamps, candy, and vacuum cleaners. everyone needs a room for those things, si?

a very dirrty thanksgiving

i am enjoying my thanksgiving vacation from the loony bin that is my father and step mother's house.

i survive the madness that surrounds my family by pretending to be an outsider -- an anthropologist that snoops in on their culture and daily activities.

so far i have noticed some unusual things about my parent's bathroom. for example, they seem to have a lot of toothbrushes for just two people...

they also seem to wear swimming goggles and baseball caps in the bath.

while not in the bathroom, my step mother likes to nervously pace while monitoring the stock market from the kitchen TV and shouting, "it's up! now it's down. down some more. now it's up!"

just watching them stresses me out.

graves and nog

couple things from this weekend...

--talked to my parents who had just returned home to South Carolina after spending a week in Dunstable, MA. when i asked if they had fun or saw the fam or did anything cool while they were away they replied, "oh yes. we bought our cemetery plots."

--"accidentally" drank an entire carton of egg nog yesterday. and since i'm no longer plagued by an eating disorder, i'm no longer counting the calories of everything before i put it in my mouth. so while i was enjoying my nog throughout the day i was all, "yeah...this probably isn't very good for me", but whatever, i didn't really care. when i threw the empty carton away that night, i glanced at the nutrition deck and realized that i had just drank no less than 1,520 calories. the old me would have freaked out. the new me just thinks i shouldn't drink the whole carton next time. unless there's rum in it, obv.

down there in front!

many moons ago, when my brother and i were very small, my step mother (lover of Happy Days and all things Henry Winkler) brought home a video from the public library in hopes of keeping the kiddies quiet for an hour on a summer's afternoon.

that video, strong kids, safe kids, has come up in conversation at every morris family gathering ever since.

in her defense, maureen thought the video contained a simple little message about self respect from the Fonz. she did not think it would be anything like this...

my family's funny

Saturday, October 7, 2006

i'm spending the weekend in the dirrty south with my crazy (but wonderful) family. here's a conversation that took place in my parent's kitchen late last night over wine, cheese, and ritz crackers. it made me giggle.

maureen: so michaela's flight was delayed and sam was playing video games in the little airport arcade and i was bored so i wandered into the bookstore.

dad: uh-huh

maureen: and there, front and center, was Pat Buchanan's new book. there were like 500 of them all lined up and facing out the main window, you couldn't miss it. what's the name of that book?

dad: ummm...i think it's called I Hate Everyone That's Not Like Me

maureen: no, that's not it

dad: no, i think that's what it's called

maureen: anyway, in the back of the store, facing away from the window, in a tiny little corner was Bob Woodward's book.

dad: his book is called State of Denial

maureen: right, State of Denial. so i had some extra time and i used it to move all of Bob Woodward's books in front of all the Pat Buchanan books in the front window.

dad: ha. no, you didn't.

maureen: i swear to god i did. someone needs to do something.
