one year.

happy anniversary to my hubs.
i thank my lucky stars every day for you.

brooklyn, brooklyn, take me in.

sometimes i miss new york. and i realize that sounds crazy, considering how many times i complained about living there. but sometimes i miss getting a slice of pizza from a certain place near our apartment, or a cup of coffee from a deli on the way to work. sometimes i miss the random cobble stone streets and grabbing a magazine from a street vendor. sometimes (um, all the time) i miss having a subway stop on every corner, and sometimes (um, all the time) i miss how in new york, i'm not bitchy...at least i'm not any more bitchy than the next person. sometimes it's hard to be the only person who walks really, really fast and sometimes being landlocked makes me want to scream. sometimes i miss the feeling that something really big is happening nearby. sometimes i miss gypsy cabs and walking across the brooklyn bridge and wearing whatever i want (usually something crazy) and having no one so much as bat an eye. i miss the spot where i got engaged. i miss the F train. i miss silent raves in union square. but mostly...i miss the brooklyn flea and that one vendor who sells vintage yves st. laurent blouses.

gobble gobble.

this thanksgiving i am thankful for my new husband.
his limitless kindness and patience astounds me every single day.

i also like how he picks up clothes that i leave forget on the bathroom floor.

wedding portraits

i'm in the processes of buying lots and lots of fun vintage frames so i can fulfill my life long dream of creating a giant photo collage on a wall of our apartment.

(if i could, i would live in a house with walls covered in books, photos and busy-patterned wallpaper and all my guests would be wrapped in cozy afghans upon entering and offered a cup of hot chocolate. also, my house would always smell like christmas.)

anyway! here are some of my favorite pictures, all taken by our amazingly talented photographer, Jennifer Davis. these will all be hanging up as part of my photo collage. probably next to lots of polaroids of me eating Forever Yogurt.

p.s. i'm at "the big whole foods" (as i like to call it) and their WiFi is free, but slooooow. so i have more wedding portraits to share, but i've had too much prosecco and i might be drunk and i'm full of pumpkin gelato and the newborn baby at the table next to me (who i am pretty sure just emerged from his mama five minutes ago) is screaming bloody murder and i don't have the patience to wait for more pics to upload and i must leave. bye bye!

wedding photos:

1. jim's uncle bob (i dig his style. i think our wedding photographer did too -- we have lots of pics.)
2. my dad laughing with jim's dad

details

1. welcome sign. this board embraces the delicious worn-in feel of our reception venue that i loved.

2. heart shaped escort cards. these bad boys were made in my hotel room the day before the wedding.

3. our fiji film instax camera made it's debut at our wedding. my little brother captured some awesome shots.

4. brooklyn bridge themed table numbers. (love that bridge!)

5. champagne and lip gloss. basically my life story. the bubbly was delivered by the lovely lori (hi, lori!)

P.S. i'm too impatient to wait for a CD of all our proofs so once again, these are screenshots taken from our online gallery.

i heart shoes

because life is just way too short for boring shoes...

i chose these pink ruffly bad boys for my wedding.

they were TALL, but i was flying high on adrenaline so they didn't hurt at all. even as i walked down the cobble stone streets of brooklyn heights!

of course, by the time the reception rolled around my shoes were off and i was dancing barefoot.

barefoot is best for boogying.

brooklyn lurve

our wedding photos went up online this weekend!

i grabbed this photo as a screenshot from our online gallery since i can't download them yet.

the best part of having 1,000+ pics is that i can see parts of the wedding day that i missed (my hubs and his groomsmen getting ready, guests greeting each other at the church, etc.)

so fun! i can't wait to order prints and put together a little album.

first look

we're still a couple weeks out from seeing the professional wedding pics, but luckily our family and friends took some for us so we don't have to wait. :)

i'm not entirely sure, but i think this photo is of our first time seeing each other on our wedding day.
(we took pics before the ceremony so no one had to miss cocktail hour. because cocktails are important.)

our first look was arranged in the Brooklyn Heights Promenade. i stood with my back turned towards the entrance of the park as jim and his groomsmen made their way down a path towards me and my b maids.

i remember being so excited!

jim tapped my shoulder and then i turned around to see him. i think we both giggled.

maybe i cried.

maybe...

brooklyn row houses

i adore this print by claudia pearson.

and i cannot wait to be married in brooklyn just 20 days from today.

new york state of mind

our little weekend jaunt to new york was so fun.

we walked around the village. we had drinks on the lower east side. we split a ginormous cupcake and we had a yummy brunch at the montauk club (where we're having our wedding recepion).

i'm looking forward to going back new york for our wedding in just 40 days!

brooklyn

jim and i are in brooklyn for the weekend...

....finalizing wedding plans and all that jazz.

in a taxi on the BQE this evening, jim looks at me and says, "i will always love new york because it reminds me of you."

and i will always love new york because it's where we fell in love.

one year ago today...

...jim and i got engaged on a rooftop terrace in brooklyn.

and honestly? i've never felt so deliriously happy as i did on april 29, 2009.

to celebrate our one-year engagement anniversary, jim and i had a little picnic in holstein park. we might be far from brooklyn, but didn't you know?

BUCKTOWN IS FOR LOVERS!

wedding getaway dress

Bridget Lace Dress - Nasty Gal Vintage

As much as I love the idea of a good costume change (any excuse to collect more clothes!), I don't think I'm going to change out of my dress at the end of our wedding (75 days away!)

I just love, love, love my dress. And I think it needs to be worn to the Brooklyn bars for an after party.

And maybe to brunch the next day?

I kid.

Or do I?

I DO!

(I DO! Get it? I'm practicing.)

sometimes whoopie pies happen

this might sound very seattle circ. 1993, but i really love cute little independent coffee shops. my favorite local shop is tillie's in fort greene, brooklyn.
tillies has these giant whoopie pies that are to. die. for.

jim had a pumpkin whoopie pie waiting for me when i got off work last night.
i ate a couple bites and put the rest away to be eaten another day.
but later that same night, around 9:00 while i was watching the halloween episode of The Office, i reached for the whoopie pie and...
i finished it.
oops.

an awesome email from my future husband (he's my husband...from the future!)

Tillie's says hello ... but I see no whoopie pies for you, unfortunately.

I just looked out the window at the brownstones, corner store, golden foliage, taxi cabs and bicyclists and just about began frothing at the mouth. I'm about to overdose on Brooklynness, sitting here in a ur-artistic coffee shop on my brand new laptop with my iced chai tea. Also with me: the print edition of the Atlantic; computer running Tweet Deck (just downloaded today), New York magazine cover story on how Mayor Bloomberg controls the entire city; youtube cycling through videosongs by the painfully awesome twee indie music duo Pomplamoose.

So yeah, I'm about to make like the "junkie bitch" on Sons of Anarchy and stroke out on the floor. I'm just sorry you're not here with me.

Highly recommended:

... wait ...

is that lady at the table out front pretending those dolls are her babies? ...

i think she is.

remind me not to sit near her.

freaks and geeks

i spent last sunday with my book club at the Brooklyn Book Fest.

we're nerds, oh yes, but we loved every second of it.

(Kelley and Lisa waiting for a panel to start)

the event was free and it included panel discussions from literary stars and emerging authors. there were also a million different tents selling books from big and small publishing houses. (and maybe we found and patronized the tent selling baked goods.)

my favorite part of the nerd fest was a panel called "Obsessive Fun."

Ethan Gilsdorf spoke on this panel and he rocked so i bought his book, Fantasy Freaks and Gaming Geeks. (it's worked related!)

of course we had to snap a pic with him too. :)

the day rocked. i was surrounded by books and fun people. it was sunny but also breezy. i ate an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie. i wore a pair of skinny jeans that are actually very comfortable. so perfect day!

our Flea find

Jim and I scored an awesome little end table at the Brooklyn Flea on Saturday.

And since the cost of delivery would have been as much as the table itself, we decided to carry it home.

And by "we" i mean Jim. Jim carried it home. But I cheered for him the whole way.

P.S. I found this adorable pair of vintage Miu Miu shoes that fit me perfectly, but I didn't buy them. I'm hating myself for it now. Hope they're still there this Saturday!
