a friend for maude
it only took us 4.5 months to find one i liked, but i am proud to say that we are now a two-dresser family. yes, that's right...i no longer need to store my underwear in the pantry.
i suppose we could have picked something up sooner. but have you noticed all the...crap....that's for sale these days? i swear i couldn't find one new dresser i liked that was actually made out of real wood. and i'm sorry, but i just cant find it in my heart to shell out hundreds of dollars for piece of furniture with a cardboard back. can't do it.
so we searched the internets. we searched thrift stores. and finally i came across a blog, Reform Objects, and i almost fell out of my chair because i wanted everything listed on the site.
stuff goes FAST on the blog. after trying to buy a couple of drool-worthy mid century dressers that sold just hours after they were posted, the seller promised she would email me first the next time she has a dresser for sale. (so nice, right?) i finally snagged this bad boy...
now if only i had the motivation to actually put my clothes away, we'd be truly living the dream. :)

the woman behind Reform Objects hunts for vintage finds and one of a kind pieces, fixes them up, and sells them (at very reasonable prices) via her blog. she basically has my dream job, except i want to find and sell clothes instead of furniture (less heavy lifting. ha!).

...and the seller gave me a discount AND she delivered for just ten dollars. (amazing! i want to be her BFF.)
63 days...
...until the day.
jim and i have pretty much nailed down all the important wedding details. we're just tying up loose ends at this point.
one loose end i'm working on?
pink or gray shoes? (because lawd knows, i'm not wearing boring old white ones!)
which should i pick?

Bridget Lace Dress - Nasty Gal Vintage
As much as I love the idea of a good costume change (any excuse to collect more clothes!), I don't think I'm going to change out of my dress at the end of our wedding (75 days away!)
I just love, love, love my dress. And I think it needs to be worn to the Brooklyn bars for an after party.
And maybe to brunch the next day?
I kid.
Or do I?
I DO!
(I DO! Get it? I'm practicing.)
look! a place to keep our underwear!
when jim and i packed up and moved to chicago we left a lot of furniture behind in new york.
we're slowly starting to collect pieces of things we love and in the meantime, we're just sort of going without some stuff.
it's not so bad... we slept on air mattresses until we bought a new bed, we fought over the comfy chair until we bought a couch (jim always let me win) and until last week, we were throwing whatever clothes that couldn't be hung in the closest in heaps on the floor of our little office.
but! we finally found a dresser.
behold...

...i've named her Maude.
she's vintage. she's blue. her drawers pull out all smooth and stuff.
maude = one sexy biatch.
now we just need to um...actually put away some clothes.
DON'T RUSH ME, PEOPLE.
came across this while i was searching for bridesmaid dresses

anything that makes a size 2 model look like a size 12 makes me nervous.
and it's $2,200.00?
dear J.Crew,
you can do better.
love,
michaela
just for fun
standing in the aisle of a super market in Nairobi, Kenya.
holding plastic bags of fake hair to my head.
because WHO HASN'T EVER DONE THAT?
happy feet
i love sequins and I love booties.
behold...

an ankle boot with full sequin coverage. just $24.80 at Forever 21 .( i like to call it Forever 35.)
is it a problem that i want to dress like a character out of The Rocky Horror Picture Show all the time?

we registered last night
doing the friday dance!
we made it to friday and it is t minus 1.5 hours until i am in the lower east side, happy hour cocktail in hand, with this guy.

can't wait.
let's all reflect on this week and think about what we're thankful for, shall we? i'll tell you what i'm thankful for...i am thankful to be ALIVE.
my boss and i flew down to miami on tuesday to meet with a customer and for some reason I DROVE THE RENTAL CAR. this fact deserves capital letters because i haven't driven a car in like...i don't know...11 months? maybe? i live in new york, i don't drive. anyway, miami. let me just say that it rained so badly that PALM TREES WERE FLYING ACROSS THE HIGHWAY. the whole situation was very upsetting.
anyway i'm alive! (so is my boss by the way.) the rain has followed me here to new york. i hope my little faux suede ankle boots from Payless hold up!

P.S. - these booties were featured in Time Out New York! check out their picks for new women's fall shoes here.
P.P.S. - thanks to kelley who sent me the Time Out article. (we both agree that there aren't too many winners in the list. except for the Payless booties, obv!)
P.P.P.S. - who knew Payless had some super cute shoes? psyched.

i wasn't going to worry about sending out Save the Dates because...meh. but i've already heard people say that they know someone else getting married on June 19 (the nerve!), and technically this is a destination wedding for about 90% of our guests so it looks like we're doing them (Save the Dates i mean, not our guests), and we're doing them soon.
here are some designs i like:

which one do you like best? anyone have good stationary store/website suggestions?

back to school, back to school, to prove to dad i'm not a fool
it's been hot in new york city. hot. hotttttt.
and even though it's still very much summer 'round these parts, i have started shopping for fall clothes.
(here's a new coat i got on super sale at Bluefly.com)...

i am ready for leggings and coats and ankle boots and plaid and pumpkin spice lattes and naps on the couch in front of college football.
bring on fall!

our Flea find
Jim and I scored an awesome little end table at the Brooklyn Flea on Saturday.

And since the cost of delivery would have been as much as the table itself, we decided to carry it home.

And by "we" i mean Jim. Jim carried it home. But I cheered for him the whole way.
P.S. I found this adorable pair of vintage Miu Miu shoes that fit me perfectly, but I didn't buy them. I'm hating myself for it now. Hope they're still there this Saturday!

you know you're a real new yorker when...
...the thought of riding around town in an actual CAR (not a cab, not a bus, not a train, a CAR) makes you squeal with delight.

and going to the nice, big grocery store (Trader Joe's) is a real treat.

i would like to say for the record that i have lived in NYC for over a year and last night was the very first time i dared to push a cart around the grocery store. there are a couple reasons for this. The first reason is...have you seen a grocery store in Brooklyn? think super skinny aisles, think mobs of people. and the second reason is that when you live in a big city, you simply buy what you can carry. and usually what i can carry is a case of diet coke in one hand and a bag of soy nuggets and fudgesicles in the other.
but our adorable little Zip Car (he's a hybrid and his name is Curley and how cute is that?) makes all sorts of crazy dreams come true. jim and i took him out for a spin last night. (to be clear, jim drove. the last time i got behind the wheel i was with a customer and i was all, "hey, just so you know, i haven't driven a car since October." and then we switched seats.)
we went to Trader Joe's which is extra special because it's a couple neighborhoods over from ours. and we filled our cart with TJ goodies and when we were done, we put them in the TRUNK (no bag schlepping needed!) and i have to say, the whole driving, parking, shopping with a cart, using-of-the-trunk experience was glorious.

i'm still watching the Loubies on ebay, but i'm keeping my options open
i sort of love these as wedding shoes

simply because they have a heart on the sole.

got the dress
last sunday i went to Kleinfeld for their monthly wedding dress sample sale. i wasn't expecting to buy anything because i figured i should get some other wedding stuff in order first (like, um, pick a date?), but i thought it would be fun to see what they had.
and guess what? i bought my dress! it wasn't at all what i thought i wanted in a wedding dress, but when i put it on i was all, LOOK AT ME BEING A BRIDE!, so i knew it was "the one."
since i was buying a sample (50% off the retail price thankyouverymuch), i had to bring the dress home with me that day. and since i was by myself when i bought it, i spent a good 20 minutes on 6th avenue holding an insanely long and heavy garment bag over my head while i tried to flag down cabs with my legs. fun times.
when i finally got a cab, i threw the dress in the back and climbed on top of it and proceeded to tell the driver all about my new wedding dress all the way to brooklyn. i think he was genuinely interested.
when i got to my building, i told everyone in the elevator, "THIS IS MY WEDDING DRESS!" and when i got home...

...i cuddled up next to the dress and cooed sweet nothings into it's plastic bag.
as you can probably tell

i was pretty excited.

what are you doing this weekend, hmmmm?
i am hoping to have a craft-tastic saturady at the Renegade Craft Fair in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

and then on sunday i'm off to a sample sale at Kleinfeld!

and tonight? i'm thinking chinese takeout eaten next to my pea in front of our TV.
