one year.

happy anniversary to my hubs.
i thank my lucky stars every day for you.

scruff

i love it when my hubs is a little scruffy.

basically the definition of cuteness. :)

gobble gobble.

this thanksgiving i am thankful for my new husband.
his limitless kindness and patience astounds me every single day.

i also like how he picks up clothes that i leave forget on the bathroom floor.

wedding photos taken by the fabulously talented Jennifer Davis.

brooklyn lurve

our wedding photos went up online this weekend!

i grabbed this photo as a screenshot from our online gallery since i can't download them yet.

the best part of having 1,000+ pics is that i can see parts of the wedding day that i missed (my hubs and his groomsmen getting ready, guests greeting each other at the church, etc.)

so fun! i can't wait to order prints and put together a little album.

bucktown graffiti

i passed by this beautiful piece of graffiti in bucktown on my way to meet friends for coffee.

perhaps proof that bucktown is for luvas?

i love love

congrats to one of my besties (and the maid of honor in my wedding), Jacqueline, who just got engaged!

i'm so happy for the future Mrs. Jacqueline Adrian Vaandrager-Steponavich!

(i'm not sure if she'll hyphenate the last name, but i like to do it because KICK ASS NAME, don't you think?)

my boys

poor freddie was frightened of the thunderstorms that passed over chicago last night. it was sort of heartbreaking to hear him bark and whine every time the thunder rolled.

jim woke up to check on him. he took his laptop into the kitchen, where freddie sleeps, and found a classical radio station so freddie could listen to streaming music instead of the storm.

i love both my boys.

brooklyn

jim and i are in brooklyn for the weekend...

....finalizing wedding plans and all that jazz.

in a taxi on the BQE this evening, jim looks at me and says, "i will always love new york because it reminds me of you."

and i will always love new york because it's where we fell in love.

one year ago today...

...jim and i got engaged on a rooftop terrace in brooklyn.

and honestly? i've never felt so deliriously happy as i did on april 29, 2009.

to celebrate our one-year engagement anniversary, jim and i had a little picnic in holstein park. we might be far from brooklyn, but didn't you know?

BUCKTOWN IS FOR LOVERS!

monday

today's low point = my 11:00 am meeting at work. (yowzers.)

today's high point = coming home to jim. he went grocery shopping so we could eat dinner tonight. (i heart him lots.)

a real man

...will carry his girlfriend's purse.

if it weren't for jim, i would probably have a broken back by now.

i love big bags and i love throwing my entire life into them (laptop, notebooks, water bottles, soda cans, novels, energy bars, an extra sweater, etc.) and whenever jim sees me walking a little crooked, he always take the bag off my shoulder and carriers it himself.

he makes an excellent urban Sherpa.

{i kid. i heart him}

then and now

my heart sploded.

dear husband-from-the-future,

thank you for letting me blow dry my hair in our air conditioned bedroom while you're still sleeping.

thank you for recording multiple Law & Order marathons.

thank you for rewinding Law & Order to the last scene i saw before falling asleep on the couch.

thank you for buying me diet root beer and m&ms

thank you for couch dancing with me

thank you for charging my cell phone at night (i always forget!)

thank you for taking me on a date tonight

thank you for letting me change the channel in middle of a baseball game

thank you for thinking my weirdness is amusing

thank you for putting up with me when i'm being a wretched human being. (like all this week. sorry.)

love,
your wife (from the future)

like two peas with pocket protectors

so i was sitting on the couch doing what i do (eating a fudgesicle and bidding on muumuus) when jim pops out of the bedroom and happily says, "i forgot i have 3D glasses for this graphic novel i'm reading!"

and i was all, awwwwwwww! i always wanted a dork to call my own and now i have one!

(i think i'm allowed to say that because i'm a dork too.)

we met...

...one year ago today.

happy anniversary, pea! i'z comin' home for some pizza!

lasagnapalooza

i was up at some ungodly hour yesterday to catch the 6am train to D.C. jim woke up a couple hours after me to catch his flight to ohio.

we are just a couple of working fools.

anyway, i just got word that jim's flight has landed so yay for two peas in the same pod tonight!

i have a lasagna waiting for him.

i know, i know. i am sooooo 1950's right now.

Oh, he don't score at bowl-a-rama. Still you gotta thank his mama.

you know what's lookin' mighty fine these days?

a quickie vegas wedding! (i'm like 75% serious about this.)

yesterday was a rough day. but it all ended OK thanks to him...

i'm constantly surprised by how much this guy loves me. I mean, yes, I am totally lovable (obviously), but it's still seems crazy (and wonderful and totally unbelievable), that i have someone who gets all protective of me when someone makes me sad. i don't know how to describe it except to say that it actually hurts him to see me get hurt. and just think about that! think about how crazy it is to be so close to someone that your feelings are actually all intertwined with theirs. and stuff. CRAZY, right?

c 2 the r 2 the a-z-y.

We picked a general location

We haven’t hammered out many (er, any?) details for our wedding yet, but we do know that the ceremony and reception will take place in Brooklyn.

This news might surprise you if you read this blog because I have made it very clear(here, here, here,) that NYC is an evil city that’s totally out to get me. I will try to explain.

I’ve been a resident of New York City for a year now. (That’s just crazy y’all, I feel like I was on the phone fighting with my moving company just yesterday.)

This past year has had some serious downs. Leaving Chicago and all my best friends who live there was RIDICULOUSLY HARD. I won’t go into details, just know that I take my capitalization seriously and it really was that hard.

This year has also had some serious ups. Hello! I met my future husband less than a month after moving here! And I don’t really believe in the “oh I was MEANT to move here and Jim and I were DESTINED to be together” mumbo-jumbo, but I do thank my lucky stars that I DID move and we DID meet.

Anyway, Brooklyn! So Brooklyn’s the place where Jim and I first made a home together. It’s the place that made me think that maybe, possibly, perhaps, weather permitting, I could live in New York City and not completely hate everything about it for every hour of every day for the rest of my life. Brooklyn’s the place that made me think that maybe I could love New York and stick around awhile. Brooklyn is so cute and so fun that it makes TRASH HEAPS piled 6 feet high on Manhattan sidewalks bearable and subway seats smeared with poop almost laughable.

BROOKLYN IS MAGICAL.

We’re going to check out The Montauk Club in Brooklyn’s Park Slop neighborhood tomorrow as a possible reception venue. If we love it, we’re going to see what dates they have available and then Jim’s going to blindfold me and spin me around and I’m going to point to the calendar and whatever date I land on will be our wedding date.

No. That last part is not true. But really there will be no rhyme or reason to our wedding date. We’re going with a date that works for the Church and Club because we’re flexi like that.

I couldn't’t find any pics of the actual space where the dinner and dancing will take place, but you can get a general feel of the place from these.

I love the vintagey library feel.

Anyway, I feel like Brooklyn is an amazing piece of NYC that lots of people miss when they're visiting the city, and I'm psyched to have all our closest friends and family experience the BEST borough (imho) on our big day!

My fiancé = most patient person alive

I came home from work on Friday and made a beeline for the couch where I assumed a horizontal position and quickly started whining because I had lost my cell phone. There was flailing and pouting and maybe one half-assed attempt to feel for the phone behind the couch cushions. But mostly there was a lot of crying, “MY PHONE IS GONE! AND I’M HUNGRY! AND THE FOOD IS TOO FAR AWAY!”

Woe is me!

Jim was so patient with me. He just kissed my forehead and let the crazy run its course. Then he pulled back one of the couch cushions, uncovering my cell phone.

My hero!

When the Cell Phone Crisis of 2009 was over we went to dinner. (Someplace close so I could eat RIGHT AWAY.)

When we came home, Jim let me open a little present that he was going to save for our one year anniversary on June 8.

A little pea necklace! Cute, right?

Sometimes I feel guilty that Jim has to bear the brunt of all my crazy. It’s just that when I see him I know I’m home and I can finally just be me. And sometimes being me = whining on the couch. (Sorry, Jim. I only let you see me like that because I know you’ll love me no matter what.)
