i miss them


i'm in dallas, tejas this weekend for an event.
and boy oh boy do i miss my boys.

jim and i are adding a new pea to our pod!

(no, i'm not pregnant.)

we're adopting a dog tomorrow!

we applied to adopt through the Chicago English Bulldog Rescue back in march. it was sort of long process (online application, hour long phone interview, hour long home inspection/face-to-face interview), and i did not do an excellent job of being patient while we waited to hear if we were accepted, but in the end it was well worth the wait.

one year ago today...


...jim and i got engaged on a rooftop terrace in brooklyn.

and honestly? i've never felt so deliriously happy as i did on april 29, 2009.

to celebrate our one-year engagement anniversary, jim and i had a little picnic in holstein park. we might be far from brooklyn, but didn't you know?

usually when i am waiting at the bus stop for the bus to come i look like this...



...because the bus schedule LIES and it makes me sad.

but when jim is waiting with me, the bus stop is much, much, much more fun...



...even when the bus is 25 minutes late.

P.S. in michaela-land, the bus is always on time and no one has to wait at the stop alone.

halloween baby

jim turned the big 3-0 on saturday. (yes, he is a halloween baby). and because 30 is such a big birthday (and because jim totally rocks) his family and I planned an extra special surprise celebration.

on saturday afternoon, jim and i ventured out into the world. i told him that i had a special birthday present on hold for him at the Barnes and Noble on the upper west side so we had to go pick it up. when we walked into the shop, we spotted jim's sister browsing a section of books. we went to say hello and then jim spotted his dad...and then his aunt...and then his mom...then his cousin. jim had no idea that all these people were coming to NYC to see him!

jim described it as the "best easter egg hunt ever."

i love surprises!

this morning i woke up and walked out into the living room to find...



...written in pistachios (the ones we've had forever because i can't open them) on our coffee table.

it was a nice message to wake up to.

p.s. jim and i have been engaged for 6 months today! i just want june to hurry up and get here so we can be married. it's taking too long. i am going to pout about it. waaaa.

we made it to friday and it is t minus 1.5 hours until i am in the lower east side, happy hour cocktail in hand, with this guy.



can't wait.

let's all reflect on this week and think about what we're thankful for, shall we? i'll tell you what i'm thankful for...i am thankful to be ALIVE.

my boss and i flew down to miami on tuesday to meet with a customer and for some reason I DROVE THE RENTAL CAR. this fact deserves capital letters because i haven't driven a car in like...i don't know...11 months? maybe? i live in new york, i don't drive. anyway, miami. let me just say that it rained so badly that PALM TREES WERE FLYING ACROSS THE HIGHWAY. the whole situation was very upsetting.

anyway i'm alive! (so is my boss by the way.) the rain has followed me here to new york. i hope my little faux suede ankle boots from Payless hold up!

so i was sitting on the couch doing what i do (eating a fudgesicle and bidding on muumuus) when jim pops out of the bedroom and happily says, "i forgot i have 3D glasses for this graphic novel i'm reading!"



and i was all, awwwwwwww! i always wanted a dork to call my own and now i have one!

(i think i'm allowed to say that because i'm a dork too.)

jim and i had an early bird dinner tonight which is pretty awesome because now i'm all snuggly at home...eating cake and ice cream on the couch and bidding on muumuus on ebay. also we're watching Ice Age and i swear if that ray romano mammoth doesn't find another mammoth friend soon that i will knock the television over because life is just too cruel, man.

it's been the most ridiculously rainy month ever. i need to whine about it, OK? (in an attempt to be less bratty, i will sandwich my complaints between good things that are happening right now.)

boo. it's freakin' raining AGAIN

yay. i have timed it so i exit my building's front gate at the exact moment the bus pulls up for two mornings in a row this week.

boo. there was a big leak in the bus roof this morning so even though i was under shelter, it was still raining on my head.

yay. we set a wedding date! june 19, 2010! has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?

boo. the rain has stretched out my little black leather flats so now i have to do this weird move where i spread out my toes and curl them and shuffle my feet to keep them on.

yay. started the second disc of the fourth season of Weeds. loves it.

boo. the "toe spread and curl" maneuver doesn't always work. yesterday i stepped out of my shoe completely and my bare foot touched the subway station floor. *pukes in mouth*

yay. we booked The Montauk Club in Park Slope, Brooklyn for our wedding reception!

boo. i totally ate a whole package of peanut butter cookies last night while i was watching Weeds. had to.

"peas in an ant farm" is also the name of my future husband's (he's my husband...from the FUTURE!) blog. he writes less about nervous breakdowns and junk food than i do, but you should read his blog anyway.
