look! a place to keep our underwear!

when jim and i packed up and moved to chicago we left a lot of furniture behind in new york.

we're slowly starting to collect pieces of things we love and in the meantime, we're just sort of going without some stuff.

it's not so bad... we slept on air mattresses until we bought a new bed, we fought over the comfy chair until we bought a couch (jim always let me win) and until last week, we were throwing whatever clothes that couldn't be hung in the closest in heaps on the floor of our little office.

but! we finally found a dresser.

behold...

...i've named her Maude.

she's vintage. she's blue. her drawers pull out all smooth and stuff.

maude = one sexy biatch.

now we just need to um...actually put away some clothes.

DON'T RUSH ME, PEOPLE.

we made it to chicago! and we're [sort of] unpacked! and we're stealing someone else's internets!

highlights from the reedy/morris move from brooklyn to chicago:

*packing one million boxes. in the beginning i was packing things in a nice, neat, and organized fashion. in the end? i would look at a pile that consisted of one sock, one screw driver, one stamp, one plastic cup, and one tube of travel toothpaste, know that each thing had it's own place to go, and then just throw the pile into the closest empty box.

*driving a 14' U-Haul truck through the Holland Tunnel. it was terrifying.

*getting the U-Haul stuck in a snowbank for an hour.

*french fries and frosties (because i use traveling as an excuse to eat fast food. and because it's delicious.)

*carrying some boxes from the U-Haul to the new apartment, hearing BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP, and turning around to an SUV barrelling down the street. i get ready to throw my hands up and do my very best WHATSAMATTAWITHYOU? when Rosie and Jillian, holding a bottle of prosecco and a box of cookies, poke their heads out the car window. my friends = best welcome wagon ever.

i'm freakin' home, y'all!!!

news.

jim and i are trading in our big apple for some deep dish pizza.
and by this i mean we are moving to Chicago!

to be more specific, we are moving to Chicago's super cute, super fun, super hip, Bucktown neighborhood.

Our new, cozy little 2 bedroom apartment is vintage-y and adorable with gorgeous arches, tile work, original 1950's kitchen cabinets, and dark wood molding.

i'm pretty much obsessed with it. and i'm so happy i could burst.

happy (belated) new year!

I usually ring in the New Year with a long post of highlights from each month of the previous year, but I wanted to keep my re-cap of 2008 short and sweet. Because I’m lazy. So here it is.

2008 was the year of…

Moves. From Chicago to Queens. From Queens to Brooklyn.

Weddings. Amy’s wedding in July, Nikki’s in September, Molly’s (Jim’s sister) in December.

Firsts. First time voting for a President who went on to win the election (third time’s a charm). First time living with my boyfriend (loving every second of it).

Delicious treats. Cupcakes and more cupcakes. Cookies. Ice cream. Pancakes.

Love. I met the love of my life in 2008 and what could be more awesome than that? How about the names we’ve chosen for our future babbys: Moo, Pickles, and Noodle? Pretty awesome, right?

I hope 2009 brings more love, weddings, firsts, and desserts! Happy 2009, friends!

moving totally sucks a big one

so we moved on sunday in the pouring rain. the movers came to my apartment first where they quickly grabbed my bed and boxes and took off before i had a chance to inspect their doings. they left my air conditioner and a bunch of other stuff that i was hoping to you know, move. i didn't have much choice but to abandon the AC and scoop everything else into a shopping bag. i hopped on the subway and rode down to brooklyn while the movers were at jim's.

when i got off the subway and above ground in brooklyn my paper shopping bag (filled to the brim with vintage china plates) quickly became saturated with rain water and broke. kicking my umbrella to the curb, i walked the quarter mile to my new apartment juggling a one million pound plastic bag (filled with photo albums) on my left arm and china plates in both hands. on the way i stopped on a corner (in the pouring rain, but i was already soaked anyway) to call jim and let him know just how unfair my life really is.

i wasn't sure the doorman would let me in to such a bougie building looking like a drowned homeless woman with great taste in plates, but he did. of course after i made it inside the lobby i had to call jim to tell him that the Super only left us one set of keys which i thought was "totally unacceptable".

when i finally got into the unit, the place was dirty. like...there was actual dirt on the floor. i shit you not, someone dropped top soil in the kitchen and never picked it up. i immediately called jim to tell him that "everything's filthy. the bath tub is disgusting. there are little hairs on the toilet". i think the little hairs are actually from a pet because they're everywhere. they're in the fruit and veg crisper drawer in the fridge, they're EVERYWHERE. although i suppose that means nothing. i suppose the little hairs could just be what we all think of when we hear "little hairs", you know...PUBES. i'd rather not think on it.

after all my bitchy phone calls to jim that day, i can't believe he actually showed up to move in with me, but he did so phew!

when the movers made it to the new place they called me to come down and meet them in the lobby. when i got down there, all four movers were in a screaming match with some tall blond woman in a fur coat who wanted to know what "business they had being in the building?" as soon as the chick saw me she must have realized that the guys were hired by the wet girl because she left. on the elevator ride back up to my unit, the movers were going on and on about how that woman was suspicious of them because or their color. i stood there very quietly, feeling very white.

the movers went back down to the truck. they called me 5 minutes later to say that a rottweiler, the building's garage guard dog, was a attacking them and could i please do something about it? i sent jim down there and his whiteness lulled the dog into a peaceful slumber. problem solved.

about one million hours after the day started, the movers left. i was excited to be home and with jim, but extremely stressed out. the only solution? enormous amounts of pizza (jim ordered my favorite toppings despite my inability to hold my shit together for 10 minutes all day) eaten in front of The Princess Bride.

moral of the story? love and pizza make everything better at the end of the day. oh and i am never moving again. not ever.

i thought the elves would pack for me?

i bet you think that since i need to be packed and ready to move by this Saturday, the pics above show the current state of my room. you're wrong. these pics are from my move to new york. Jim and i have yet to pack a single box. whoops...

chocolate goodness

okie i'm going to keep talking about my new apartment for awhile, cool?

did i tell you it was just the third place jim and i saw? did i tell you we got it without paying a broker's fee? didn't you think no-fee apartments were mythical in new york city? i did.

somehow the whole apartment hunting process was a breeze. and although i am VERY suspicious of things that are easy (and people who are nice) in this city, i'm just going to accept this as a stroke of good luck.

here is jim. when this picture was taken we had just seen the apartment and were on our way back to the subway, debating the whole way on whether we should go back and snatch the place or check out a few more apartments on the upper east side. jim called a friend for advice while i snapped pics and played in a pile of leaves.

random wall. taken from the front lobby of our building.

in celebration of our chocolate palace, i made chocolate frosted cupcakes last night. notice the sports themed cupcake liners? yeah...i know how to keep my man happy.

it's official, we're brooklynites!

please excuse my caps, but WE GOT THE APARTMENT!

on November 30th Jim and i will pack up our shiz, maybe yell an "Opa!" on our way out of Astoria, and head to our chocolate palace in Brooklyn. i couldn't be happier.

and good lawd, our new loft is amazing. our unit is on the top floor and it has spectacular views of the east river and lower Manhattan. sigh...my apartment makes new york city look pretty. it must be magic!

the building itself is an old converted chocolate factory. and i love chocolate so it was meant to be, obv. the ground floor has a spa and yoga studio (body by Brooklyn), a Cuban restaurant, a pet hotel (hey Jim -- there is no excuse that a french bulldog with a red bow around it's neck should not be under the tree this Christmas!), and [coming soon] an organic market. i may never leave the building.

a few things that are making me happy right now

--Drinking a Starbucks chai tea latte in a red Christmas cup. I’ve been dreaming about this beverage since yesterday when I thought about getting a chai but ordered a triple grande skinny vanilla latte at the last second. it did nothing but disappoint my mouth.

--The second disk of the first season of 30 Rock is sitting at home waiting for me and Jim to give it our full attention. I know, I know, we’re so behind in our TV watching. We are ashamed.

--My fingernails are painted Russian Navy by OPI. Love.

--Top Chef starts tonight! Clearly we are in for a long night of TV watching.

--Jim and I will be roommates come December 1! I’ve hinted at a new apartment a couple of times and I think, hope, pray we found one yesterday. I don’t want to say too much about it since we won’t know for sure that it’s ours till Friday, but eeeee! It’s fabulous!
