sprung.

i think it might {finally!} be spring in chicago.

sunday.

1. teeny tiny leaves!
2. had to document my first iced coffee of the season
3. side of gallery cabaret in bucktown
4. my bully buddy in holstein park

think spring!

it's 50 degrees today!

so even though i've had to wear my winter coat for the past two weeks, today i'm going to celebrate spring with by taking a little stroll with my hubs and the fredster.

happy {spring} weekend!

more mexico.

ohhhh, good lord.

even i am sick of my mexico pictures!

but please bear with me. it's cold here in chicago, and the 10 day forecast is not very promising.

i'm just a better person in warm weather, and i'm trying my best to channel warm vibes via sunny mexican memories.

1. tacos eaten at a tourist trap during a rain storm.
2. horses.
3. church on 5th avenue.
4. sign for a tattoo parlor.
5. hubs holding a corona.

beach

i thought spring had sprung in chicago. just the other week we had sunny skies, temps in the 60's, and i was digging spring shoes out from the back of my closet.

alas, we're back to 30 degree weather. which is ok. because i know spring isn't too far off.
and in the meantime, i'm going to dream about warm and sunny mexico.

a margarita warrior

a true margarita warrior never leaves a man drink behind.

also, a true margarita warrior wears pucci scarves. rambo style.

last full day

the last full day of a vacation is depressing the same way that a sunday afternoon is depressing.

it's over already?!

and even though i love my little life back home in chicago, i am totally in denial about leaving mexico.

and all those margaritas...

escape

starting tomorrow, the hubs and i will be trading in our wool hats and puffy winter coats for the sunny beaches of playa del carmen!

as someone who loves nothing more than sand and umbrella drinks, i am REALLY excited about this mini, last-minute getaway.

p.s. it looks like i'm wearing a robe in this picture, but i'm not. i just wear clothes that look like pajamas. apparently.

today.

we woke up to a winter wonderland this morning.

so i did what any normal 28 year old would do.

i made pancakes for my hubs while singing HAPPPY HOOOLIDAAAAYYYYSSSS  in my best (and often practiced) robert goulet voice. later i watched an old documentary on the amish.

and because it still looks all white and cold out there, i think i'll snuggle with blanket on the couch next to our tree and binge on media.

xoxox!

double fisting

basically the best happy hour ever.

although, the big fat american in me gets a little sad when handed a teeny scoop of ice cream.
(i'm used to the Ben & Jerry's Vermonster, yo!)

no worries though. i can always steal some extra licks off the hub's cone while he's snapping pics.

pancakes in the pool

if i could teleport back to this poolside lounge chair right this second, i would do it.

of course, i'd need to take my hubs and our dog along for the trip too.

i am missing from this photo because at the time it was taken, i was in the pool drinking iced coffee and ordering pancakes from the swim-up bar.

question: who eats pancakes in a bathing suit?
answer: me.

and that's what i call livin' the dream.

BOOYAH!

don't stop belize'n

while we were in belize, jim and i stayed in ambergris caye on the little island of san pedro.

getting there meant taking a teeny plane from belize city to san pedro and then a water taxi from the city center to the resort.

(getting there is always half the fun, don't you think?)

oh my

what's this you ask?

why...

The sun is a mass of incandescent gas
A gigantic nuclear furnace
Where hydrogen is built into helium
At a temperature of millions of degrees

it's the sun, y'all!

and it came out to say hello as i walked over the LaSalle bridge this morning.

and it makes being alive so WORTH IT.

i hope everyone has a very happy, very sunny day today!

The annual Boiler Up!

even though i live kinda far away, i try to make it back to Purdue for at least one football game every year.

any by "football game" i mean "tailgate." i try to tailgate once a year.

i went to west lafayette last weekend (not this past weekend, but the weekend before. sheesh i am behind!) and it was sunny and 70 degrees and beautiful.

and it's ok that we didn't win the game because...

...i think we won the tailgate.

fall feet

in case you were wondering...

...this is what our fall feet look like almost every day.

it's starting to feel less cool and more COLD in NYC. so i'm going to say goodbye to tights and hello to pants soon. (ah, pants. my old nemesis!)

i have sort of a bad habit of complaining about the cold. i also have sort of a bad habit of running out of the house with no hat, one glove, a scarf that's still damp from the snow the night before, boots with holes in the sole...so uh...

will 2010 be the year i stop looking like a toddler who dressed herself for preschool? we shall see, my friends. we shall see.

P.S. does anyone know where i can get a pair of mittens that are connected by one long string?

fall-icious

dear mother nature,

thank you so much for being 70 degrees and sunny today in new york city.

i really love it.

love,

michaela

p.s. remember how it rained for 23 days in june? i think you should give us 23 days of sunny 70 degree weather. in february.

freaks and geeks

i spent last sunday with my book club at the Brooklyn Book Fest.

we're nerds, oh yes, but we loved every second of it.

(Kelley and Lisa waiting for a panel to start)

the event was free and it included panel discussions from literary stars and emerging authors. there were also a million different tents selling books from big and small publishing houses. (and maybe we found and patronized the tent selling baked goods.)

my favorite part of the nerd fest was a panel called "Obsessive Fun."

Ethan Gilsdorf spoke on this panel and he rocked so i bought his book, Fantasy Freaks and Gaming Geeks. (it's worked related!)

of course we had to snap a pic with him too. :)

the day rocked. i was surrounded by books and fun people. it was sunny but also breezy. i ate an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie. i wore a pair of skinny jeans that are actually very comfortable. so perfect day!

Reunion-ing

The family reunion on Lake Ariel was AWESOME!

We're home in Brooklyn now. Good thing it rained this morning because if it were 90 degrees and sunny I would've had to jump in the lake and swim away yelling, "i'm not leeeeaaaavvvving!"

Jim's family is lovely and I know I fit in well with them because BOY DO THEY LIKE CHOCOLATE!!! I should have taken some pics of the dessert spread...cookies and cookie bars and cakes and little muffins, and brownies, and more cake, and more cookies...I think I just developed the diabeetus. (Help me, Wilford Brimley!)
