i am thankful for my hometown.

i was born in lowell, massachusetts -- the birthplace of both the industrial revolution and jack kerouac! if you've never been to lowell, you can get a pretty accurate glimpse of what it looks like from the movie The Fighter.

Sisters from The Fighter

when i was in fifth grade, i moved to a teeny tiny town northwest of lowell called dunstable. with a population of about 3,000 people, dunstable was so small that it didn't (and still doesn't) have it's own high school. i went to groton, the next town over, for high school -- if you've never been to groton, you can get a pretty good sense of what it looks like from the movie School Ties.

i'm thankful to have grown up in massachusetts for the following reasons:

1. easy access to the beach.
2. pretty new england foliage
3. hockey is cool (both field and ice)
4. pilgrims love it!

i kid, i kid! in all seriousness, it was a great place to grow up. i made amazing life-long friends, i had teachers that let me drop-off homework at their house, i'm pretty sure i was pulled over for speeding a dozen times and the cops always let me off without so much as a warning, i learned to celebrate diversity, and by the time i left new england to go to college in the midwest, i left with a sense of pride for where i came from.

Field Hockey is cool!

Thats crazy that you didnt even have a high school in your town...that picture of those sisters from the fighter cracks me up. There are so many people in the town I grew up in that would have been perfect for those roles as well :)
